In the Soft Light of Our Days: A Life Shared With My 99-Year-Old Mother

Sharing this space with my 99-year-old mother has created a sense of fulfilment I never thought I would experience at this stage of my journey. Our mornings begin unhurried, true Slow Mornings wrapped in a kind of beauty that words often fail to capture. As the sun rises, we walk through the gardens, accompanied by birdsong and the soft murmur of leaves stirred by the breeze. There is a calmness in these moments that feels almost sacred & watching my mother take these walks, at ease and content, is a joy beyond measure, a living expression of Aging With Grace and Generations Together.

By evening, we often find ourselves on the terrace… where we grow our own vegetables along with the joy that comes from nurturing something with our own hands, and where I end my day in meditation. Just a few steps above, under the curve of the dome, the view opens up to the Western Ghats bathed in gold , a sight that never loses its quiet magic.

The abiding sense of harmony and fulfillment is nurtured by homes designed to welcome natural light, preserve a gentle indoor climate, and keep you in tune with the rhythm of the day. This extends beyond architecture and right into daily living, for example the water that flows into our kitchens comes from the famed Siruvani, celebrated as one of the purest and sweetest in the world. To cook with such pristine water is not just a luxury but a reminder that life here is deeply connected to the richness of the land.

Yet what truly brings The Retreat to life isn’t just its design or setting; it’s the people. Exemplified by the gardeners, who know every tree and bloom, tending the landscape as if it were their own, with a quiet pride that needs no supervision. That same spirit flows through our security team, housekeeping staff, and management. There’s an unspoken harmony in the way they work, a shared sense of belonging that defines the very spirit of this community.

My journey across the world of real estate has been long and rewarding, but I see the truest expression of my vision come alive in this sanctuary.
